All of us would have seen terrible images resulting from typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The destruction is terrible and many millions have been left without homes, shelter, food and water. Thousands have lost their lives and families have been torn apart through typhoon Haiyan. There are numerous opportunities for all of us to give to various causes and we would encourage everyone to do as they feel appropriate.
Today I received a message from a friend from the Philippines urging folks to be wise as to where they give as unfortunately not all organisations are wise in the use of the resources they are given. With this in mind St Paul’s will be taking up a special offering on Sunday for the relief effort in the Philippines. All the money given will go direct to workers in the field through the Assembly of God mission links. This will mean direct help can be given quickly and efficiently and 100% of the money will go to the people in need. If you wish to give please make cheques payable to ‘St Paul’s Church’ and where possible give using Gift Aid so we can claim tax refunds from the Government. We will also give 20% of our normal offering to this urgent need. We can not always give to such disasters but I feel on this occasion we need to give generously and in accordance to our faith. St. Paul’s is on a faith journey for our own finances but we must never forget that we are called to bless! Please give this Sunday.
Thank you and God bless
Yours faithfully,
David Warren
